First part of the semester: Overview over selected methods, such as

• Matrix methods in general
• Method of Moments (MoM), integral equation techniques
• Multiple Multipole Program (MMP), Method of Auxiliary Sources (MAS), etc.
• Finite Differences (FD) and FD-TD
• Finite Elements Method (FEM)
• Boundary Elements Method (BEM)
• Finite Volume Time Domain (FVTD)

Second part of the semester: Small student projects (groups of 1-3 students) with presentations in the last week of the semester

The student projects are supervised by Ch. Hafner and guests.

Optimization Methods for Engineers

First part of the semester: Overview over selected methods, such as

• Classical deterministic algorithms
• Simulated annealing
• Particle swarm optimization
• Evolutionary strategies
• Genetic algorithms
• Genetic programming
• Neural networks

These methods are applied to various types of applications, such as

• Binary search
• Parameter search
• Symbolic regression
• Extrapolation of measured data
• Time series prediction
• Optimal design of filters, antennas, etc.
• Optimization of numerical methods

Second part of the semester: Small student projects (groups of 1-3 students) with presentations in the last week of the semester
